Tasting Notes: The Domaine Lagille "L'Inattendue" Brut offers an aromatic combination of roundness, fruit, and freshness derived from its 100% Pinot Meunier composition. The wine, which has a persistent mousse and a pale gold appearance, presents aromas of ripe pear, apple skin, quince, white flowers, and hazelnut, layered with hints of brioche and crushed chalk. On the vibrant and elegant palate, notes of yellow plum, citrus, toasted almond, and mineral spice dominate, leading to a creamy yet lifted texture and a long, dry, and beautifully balanced finish.
Estate History: The Lagille family has a long history as winegrowers in the village of Treslon, located in the Vallée de l'Ardre of the Montagne de Reims region, with roots in the area dating back to the 17th century and formal establishment of the domaine in 1818. Today, the estate is managed by siblings Vincent and Maud Lagille, who have shifted the domaine's focus toward organic viticulture and single-varietal, terroir-driven Champagnes that highlight the unique clay-limestone soils of Treslon. Current winemaker Vincent joined the family business in 2012 and implemented a philosophy of minimal intervention in the cellar, including spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts and minimal dosage, with a goal of allowing the specific plots and grape varieties, especially Meunier, to express themselves fully.
