Tasting Notes: Montecariano is the quintessential Amarone, made by the extreme dedication in Cariano, the heart of Valpolicella. Amarone is a typical blend of Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, and Oseleta, grown in glacial limestone soils. They are characterized by restrained alcohol levels and moderate use of oak. Amarone uses the classic method of the region called appasimento, where the grapes are picked fully ripe and laid on mats to evaporate some of the water and produce a rich and smooth wine. Perfect for roasted meats, rich pasta and polentas.
Estate History: The Montecariano winery is situated in San Pietro in Cariano within the historic Valpolicella region. The estate was formerly owned by archaeologist Andrea Monga and has been operated by Mariella Gini and her sons since 1992, focusing on integrated production methods.
