Tasting Notes: I Cacciagalli Pellerossa is the perfect summer rosé with an elegant structure and beautiful vivacity. Pellerossa is produced from Aglianico grapes that are at least eighteen years old. The fermentation is in clay amphorae with no added yeast, and is further matured in amphorae before bottling. Pellerossa shows notes of ripe red cherry, gala apple, rhubarb and pink grapefruit that are rounded out with tangy acidity and a structure.
Estate History: I Cacciagalli is located in the sunny hills of Campania within the Province of Caserta, just north of Naples. The I Cacciagalli name dates to the 1600s and was given by historical local mappers who were indicating an infamous "rooster battle" took place where the farm sits. The farm consists of 25 acres of land, but only 6 are dedicated to vines and rests at the foot of an inactive volcano. The family is known for the production of grapes that are lesser-known to those outside of the local area, such as Pallagrello Nero. I Cacciagalli uses organic and biodynamic farming practices to ensure authentic expressions of their native grape varietals.
