Tasting Notes: The Bartolo Mascarello Dolcetto d'Alba presents a jewel-like magenta color and a lifted, fresh nose with bright red fruit, violet, and lavender notes. On the palate, it delivers brilliant intensity and electric acidity, showcasing ripe plum, blueberry, and black cherry flavors complemented by hints of licorice and wet stones. This is a super-classic, medium-bodied wine with a snappy, crunchy feel and well-integrated, fairly low tannins, culminating in a persistent, fresh finish.
Estate History: The Cantina Bartolo Mascarello winery was founded in 1920 by Giulio Mascarello, and its guiding principles have remained largely unchanged for over a century. Bartolo Mascarello, who took over the business in the 1960s, became a legendary, outspoken icon of traditional winemaking, staunchly opposing modern trends like barrique aging and single-vineyard bottlings. He famously created hand-painted labels with the slogan "No Barrique, No Berlusconi" to express his views. Since his death in 2005, his daughter Maria Teresa Mascarello has seamlessly run the estate, continuing the family's legacy of crafting highly sought-after, traditional wines with an unwavering commitment to quality over commercial promotion.
