Tasting Notes: The Bartolo Mascarello Barbera d'Alba offers a focused and fresh profile, bursting with aromas of fresh red cherry, raspberry, and delicate floral notes of violet. On the palate, the wine is dynamic and balanced, presenting bright acidity, supple tannins, and a clean, fragrant finish. Complexity is added through hints of plums, tobacco leaf, earth, and a saline line that runs the length of the palate, contributing to its vibrant character and excellent length.

Estate History: The Cantina Bartolo Mascarello winery was founded in 1919 by Giulio Mascarello, the grandfather of the current proprietor, Maria Teresa. The estate is a staunch defender of traditional winemaking, famously eschewing modern trends like the use of small French oak barriques (as evidenced by Bartolo's iconic "No Barrique, No Berlusconi" label) in favor of large, neutral Slavonian oak botti for aging. Maria Teresa took over the reins after her father Bartolo's death in 2005, continuing the legacy of producing elegant, traditional, and highly sought-after wines from grapes grown in prime Barolo vineyards such as Cannubi, San Lorenzo, Rué, and Rocche dell'Annunziata. The winery has no official website and produces a small, highly prized annual production.
