Tasting Notes: The Tenuta di Fessina Etna Bianco Erse is a luminous straw-yellow white wine offering a bouquet of delicate citrus, almond, mountain herbs, and a distinctive flint-like minerality. On the palate, it delivers crispness and a vibrant freshness, balancing flavors of white peach and yellow apple with a profound saline and chalky texture characteristic of its volcanic origins. The finish is persistent and invigorating, a true expression of high-altitude Carricante grapes blended with Minnella and Catarratto.
Estate History: Tenuta di Fessina is an estate deeply rooted in the unique terroir of Mount Etna in Sicily. The winery was founded by Silvia Maestrelli, a Tuscan art dealer with a passion for viticulture, who was captivated by the stark beauty and potential of Etna’s ancient vineyards. The estate centers around an old palmento (a traditional Sicilian winery structure) in Santa Maria di Zafferana Etnea, nestled on the eastern slope of the active volcano. Maestrelli, alongside her partners and a dedicated team, focuses on preserving traditional viticulture practices while employing modern techniques to craft wines that are authentic expressions of the indigenous grape varieties, such as Nerello Mascalese for the reds and Carricante for the whites, respecting the rugged, volcanic landscape that defines their character.
