Estate History: The Ronchi di Cialla winery was founded in 1970 by Paolo and Dina Rapuzzi with the singular mission of preserving and championing the ancient native grape varieties of Friuli, which were at risk of extinction. They played a pivotal role in re-establishing Schioppettino as a legal and viable variety, which had been previously thought to be extinct and illegal to cultivate. The family successfully petitioned the Italian government, and the area of the Cialla valley was eventually recognized as a specific sub-zone (DOC) for this grape. The estate is now run by their sons, Pierpaolo and Ivan, who continue the family's commitment to biodiversity-friendly farming practices and crafting age-worthy wines that authentically express the unique Cialla terroir.
