Estate History: The history of La Colombera is deeply tied to the Semino family's farming tradition in the Colli Tortonesi region of Piedmont, with the grandparents first renting the farm in 1938 to grow various crops. In the 1980s, the family, led by Piercarlo, shifted focus to producing and bottling their own wine rather than selling the fruit to others. A pivotal moment arrived in the 1990s when Piercarlo and his daughter, Elisa Semino (often referred to as the "Queen of Timorasso"), decided to champion the local, nearly forgotten indigenous white grape variety, Timorasso. Elisa wrote her enology thesis on the grape and began planting the first of several Timorasso vineyards in 1997, becoming one of the pioneers in its rediscovery and elevation to the respected status it holds today. The estate practices sustainable, organic farming, favoring manual labor and indigenous yeasts in the cellar to express the unique terroir.
