Tasting Notes: The I Clivi Cabernet Franc offers a delicate and intriguing profile, centered on vibrant red fruit characteristics of fresh strawberries, wild blueberries, and subtle currants. The palate is light-to-medium-bodied and refreshingly structured, displaying a distinct herbaceous core and a clean, saline finish. Notes of smoky mineral and hints of violet add complexity to the fruit-forward nature, which features smooth tannins and a crisp, lively structure that avoids an overly sharp sensation.
Estate History: I Clivi is a small, family-owned winery located in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region of northeastern Italy, operating near the border of Slovenia. Founders Ferdinando and Caterina Zanusso began their work by acquiring old, abandoned vineyards on the steep hillsides known locally as "clivi," specifically in the Corno di Rosazzo area. Today, Ferdinando and his son Mario manage the estate, focusing on organic farming practices and minimal intervention winemaking, exclusively using native yeasts and stainless steel fermentation to allow the inherent character of the region's unique "Ponca" soil to shine through in their pure, elegant wines.
