Tasting Notes: The Firriato ‘Le Sabbie’ Etna Rosso is a lovely red wine that costs so little, and offers so much. This is NOT your typical simple Sicilian red wine. Salvatore di Gaetano and Vinzia, a husband and wife team, craft a beautiful expression from their vineyard situated on sandy, loamy slopes of Mt Etna. At first glance, the wine appears light (Most Etna Rosso’s are lighter), but this one surprises you with all the finesse and ethereal qualities of a more expensive wine. An incredible depth of smoke, earth, leathery tannins, delicate dried cherries and strawberries await you. Simply put, this stunning little wine is a great alternative for Pinot Noir.
