Fontanafredda Barolo La Rosa: On the nose, clear-cut overtones of withered roses, violets, tobacco, underbrush, spices, and a slight touch of vanilla. Dense, closely-woven tannins start out smooth, almost velvety, and then explode in the palate with fruit. It is excellent served with flavorful meat dishes and mature cheeses.
Allegrini Amarone della Valpolicella: Intense ruby red tending to garnet, it reveals an extraordinary complexity on the nose, with notes of cherries in spirits and blackberry jam, followed by hints of dried violets, dark chocolate, coffee and tobacco. It takes the palate by surprise with its balance, freshness and softness, enhanced by silky-smooth tannins.
Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino: Since 1987 Vincenzo Abbruzzese has been directing the Valdicava winery in the north of the Montalcino area. Martini Bramante, his maternal grandfather, had acquired the estate in 1953 and started Brunello production in 1968. However, wines under their own label were only put on the market from 1977. Before that, a label of the Brunello Consortium with the family name was stuck on the bottles.
