Tasting Notes: The Col d’Orcia Brunello di Montalcino is a ripe and seductive wine, simply bursting from the glass with red berries and woodland notes. Rich and powerful on the palate, this is not a shy wine, absolutely singing after being open for 20-30 minutes or a quick decant and positively perfect with anything off the grill.
Estate History: Col d’Orcia is one of the oldest established wineries of Montalcino and is very much part of the history of Brunello. The modern era of the story dates back to at least 1890 when the Franceschi’s, of Florence, bought what was then known as Fattoria di Sant’Angelo in Colle. They showcased Brunello wines at the 1933 Wine Exhibition of Siena, long before Brunello would become the world-famous wine it is today. After a family split in the 1950’s Col D’Orcia was born when Stefano Franceschi named his parcel after a river that cuts through the land. Today thet are one of the largest organic wineries in Tuscany.
