Tasting Notes: The Bartolo Mascarello Langhe Nebbiolo offers a beautiful, vibrant expression of the grape with a core of red fruits, including raspberries and red currants, complemented by classic floral notes of roses and violets. Hints of orange peel, mint, and dry herbs add complexity to the perfumed bouquet, leading to a palate that is medium-bodied with silky, well-balanced tannins and a persistent, fresh finish. The wine is known for its elegant, approachable style compared to the estate's more structured Barolo and can be enjoyed in its youth.
Estate History: The Mascarello family has been a beacon of traditional winemaking in Piedmont for generations, with the current winery founded in 1919 by Giulio Mascarello. His son, Bartolo, joined the business after World War II and became an iconic defender of the traditional Barolo style, staunchly opposing modern techniques like aging in new barriques and the practice of single-vineyard bottlings. He famously expressed his philosophy with a handwritten label that read, "No Barrique, No Berlusconi". Since Bartolo's death in 2005, his daughter Maria Teresa has continued the family legacy, producing wines in the exact same time-honored, traditional methods as her father and grandfather.
