Tasting Notes: The Fessina Etna Bianco A'Puddara, from 100% Carricante, is a straw yellow color with shades of green. On the nose, grafite, orange zest, mango, and aromatic herbs. The palate has a vertical minerality, high acidity with lemon peel and tropical fruit. Sapid with buttery notes and a savory marine finish, a pleasant saltiness. A 'Puddara - "le gallinelle" or "la chioccia" for fishermen and farmers, in memory of the poetry of Ovid - was a sign that indicated the direction in work and in life. Imagine the fishermen from Riposto who come back from the sea and who, looking up on the volcano, spot the Pleiades hidden behind the summit just where, as if it were a hanging garden, the vineyard of Carricante rests.
Estate History: The Tenuta di Fessina winery is the work of Silvia Maestrelli who moved from Milan to Sicily in 2006. She fell in love with Etna and the wines there and began the hard work of becoming one of the first women to open a winery on the volcano. Being a pioneer wasn’t enough for Silvia, she also wanted to protect the history and culture of Mt. Etna, utilizing old vines, ancient techniques and crafting uniquely feminine wines from the vibrant, volcanic soils.
