Tasting Notes: It’s official, Syrah has a second spiritual home, in the most unlikely places of Cortona , Southern Tuscany. Stefano Amerighi coaxes the best from the grape here, wild dark plum and blackcurrant, intense olive tapenade and white pepper. The vines are tended biodynamically employing native yeast and minimal sulfur addition. The Tuscan terroir imprint is undeniable in what is one of the best Syrah to be found in Italy.
Estate History: Stefano Amerighi is one of the leading biodynamic producers in Tuscany today. Amerighi is nestled in the territory of Chiuso di Cortona which is closest to the border of Umbria. This zone of Cortona became a certified DOC back in 1999. The climate and terroir are known to be most suitable for growing Syrah. Being settled on the hilly southeastern part of Tuscany permits the ideal amount of exposure for the grapes along with the mixture of soils including clay, silt, and chalk. Stefano explored and chose this region explicitly for this reason and began planting back in 2002. From that point forward he began producing Syrah-based wines in unison with the lunar and planetary phases while also farming entirely naturally.
