Tasting Notes: The 2019 Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia has landed, and it is beyond phenomenal. Owner Nicolo Incisa della Rocchetta has deemed it ‘The greatest vintage ever produced” by this landmark estate (and that is really saying something.) Nicolo is the son of Mario, the legendary founder of the estate, and he would know. We were lucky enough to taste the 2019 recently and found it to have the power of the 2015 - which was Wine Spectator wine of the year - but with an added finesse. It is simply glorious right now but has the potential to age for many years. 2019 as a vintage had in fact the perfect conditions, that coupled with the pristine vineyard locations in Bolgheri and 50 years of experience making the most iconic Super Tuscan, mark this as what will no doubt become one of the greatest wines made, not just in Tuscany or Italy, but from anywhere in the world.
Estate History: This landmark wine is the first ‘Super Tuscan’ and was made privately from 1948 to 1967 by the Marchese Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, who had the dream to use the great terroir of Bolgheri to craft a blend that could stand with the great wines of Bordeaux. Sassicaia lives in a class all its own, owing to the perfect location of the vineyards and the mastery in the cellar.
